RV Refrigerator Space Calculator — How It Works

Overview

The RV Refrigerator Space Calculator helps RV campers, vanlifers, and road travelers estimate how much refrigerator capacity they need and how efficiently they’re using their available space. Instead of guessing whether everything will fit, this tool calculates total volume used by each food item and shows exactly how much space remains.

Core Formulas

Volume Calculation

Item Volume = Cubic Inches per Unit × Quantity
Total Used Volume = Sum of all Item Volumes

Each food item has a predefined volume in cubic inches (cu in). The tool multiplies this by the quantity to get the total volume used.

Example:
A gallon of milk is 231 cu in. If you have 2 gallons:

231 × 2 = 462 cu in

Capacity Utilization

Utilization % = (Total Used Volume ÷ Fridge Capacity) × 100

Example:
Medium 6 cu ft fridge (10,368 cu in) with items totaling 5,000 cu in:

5,000 ÷ 10,368 × 100 = 48.2% full

Unit Conversion

1 cubic foot = 1,728 cubic inches
Cubic Feet = Cubic Inches ÷ 1,728
